Meet our November volunteers of the month, Ray and Penny Heller, the organizers of the group from St. Luke’s Church in Gales Ferry.
This group provides the food and prepares dinner on the first Sunday of the month. Their specialty is Sloppy Joes with salad and other sides.
Ray and Penny have been volunteering since the early 2000s and took over organizing the group in 2008.
The group of volunteers from St. Luke’s includes Norm, Judy, Roger, Cathy, Dennis, Amy, Leah, Logan, Denyse, Ruth and Diane on an alternating schedule.
We appreciate all that they do to feed the hungry at the Meal Center.
In addition to their meal preparation, the group from St. Luke’s also plants and maintains a community garden that has provided over 800 pounds of fresh produce to the Meal Center this year. Their contributions include tomatoes, Swiss chard, butternut squash, cucumbers, and other fresh and delicious vegetables.
We are very appreciative of the time, care, and effort that go into this charitable endeavor. We are most grateful for our St. Luke’s volunteer group.
Thank you for your tremendous efforts to feed the needy in the New London Community!
